Happy Friday! Also, it’s my birthday and I’m so glad it’s on a Friday this year. Turning 35 is a big birthday and I feel extremely fortunate to be able to celebrate another year of life. Also, it’s around this time 3 years ago when I started my blog so it’s my blog’s birthday as well.
Today I’m working half a day and then later tonight going to this very popular Tex Mex restaurant in Austin that everyone loves. I have never been so I’m really looking forward to it. My BFF Roman is out of town which is a bummer but I’m sure we’ll celebrate soon.
I also get to enjoy a free birthday Starbucks drink so I’m gonna get a Venti White Mocha right before work. Even though we have a barista at work, they don’t serve Starbucks, instead it’s Houndstooth Coffee. But I enjoy it every day, it’s just nice to have my favorite Starbucks drink near work.
For my birthday, I just want to savor the day and spend it with my friends. I wish my family was here with me and my new love, which by the way I found out he comes back next Friday! Those were the best news I heard this week.
Looking back at the past year, I feel like the beginning of 2017 was really tough for me and by the summer, things started to turn around for the better. I mean, changing cities and taking off with two weeks notice was nerve wracking. I felt good about my decision and people always ask me if I moved here for a job. I always say, “No, I moved here for a new life”; because it’s the truth. A lot of them ask me how I was so brave to just take a risk like that without having a job. It was a no brainer for me because I knew that there were no opportunities for me in Dallas. I was working part time at a gym, that’s how bad it got. Not that that’s bad, but coming from working at a high tech company making $50K a year, that’s definitely a big adjustment.
For this next year, my main focus is to get settled here in Austin. I’m moving again in January to a more permanent situation, this one was just temporary. I’m looking forward to living on my own again, no roommates. I almost forget what that feels like, to just come home to my dog and get to have the fridge, the living room, my entire place to myself.
