Never in my wildest dreams did I envision that I would come to the conclusion of moving outside of the country to Mexico. That’s one of the funny things about life is that, sometimes, it takes you on a ride and you don’t even know how you got there, but you’re there for it. Well, I am here for it and I am so happy to accept this challenge and embark on a new chapter in my life. After all, I am starting a new era as I am turning 40 in a few months.

It Started With a Dream
A few months ago, I had a dream I was walking around Mexico and noticed square buildings on the streets. Then I was at an outside shopping center, and don’t laugh, but they had a Blockbuster. I was floored to see a Blockbuster period and in Mexico! It was facing a lake and I jumped into the water. Shortly after, I laid on the grass, stared at the stars and saw three shooting stars. Then I got up and jumped onto the pavement and I remember thinking, “I made it”.
The Signs
I watched a Tiktok of a girl who made the move from Miami to Merida, Mexico because rent was too expensive and she was searching for some semblance of peace in her life. I found it funny that I was seeing this particular video because I had been wanting to move to Miami for a few years now and so it spoke to me. I looked up Merida, Yucatan, Mexico and I fell in love. Of course, I went to YouTube and watched some videos of people who took the leap and that’s when I found Cafe Con Leche Travels.
These guys are incredibly helpful with their content and they made me feel good about making this decision. They showed this video where they visited different malls in Merida. Low and behold, one of them had a lake at the mall, just like my dream! When I saw that, I remembered my dream and I instantly knew this was my sign that I am meant to be in Mexico.

Cost of Living is Too Expensive in the US
This year, rents have increased to almost double of what we were previously paying and that is unsustainable and ridiculous. Our salaries are not increasing so this situation is getting really ugly. Not to mention, hearing of the crimes being done against minorities here in the US, it’s highly upsetting.
Compared to the cost of living in Mexico, my money can go a LONG way by making this change to move to Mexico. I’m even selling my car so that my expenses will lower even more by not having a car payment or insurance. Uber and Didi are rideshare services that are popular in Merida, so it won’t be as expensive to get around, especially if I move to an area where things are close by.
Missing Nature & Spanish Culture
Not gonna lie, but I really miss the ocean. I grew up in Puerto Rico and trips to the beach were an often occurrence growing up. I miss going to the beach, seeing palm trees, eating seafood and drinking coconut water straight from the coconut. I’m an island girl at heart. I also miss speaking in Spanish and seeing pictures of Merida, reminded me so much of Puerto Rico; my heart soared.
Playa & Cenotes
Progreso beach is 20-30 minutes away from Merida. There’s also several swimming sinkholes throughout Merida called Cenotes, that are gorgeous! I just can’t wait to bask in the freshness of the water, as I am a water baby! Yassss.

This is an old picture from years ago, but I felt it went well with this post. This was for a photoshoot so obviously I won’t have this type of look when I go to the beach. More simple and free is my vibe nowadays.
So those are the main reasons why I’m moving abroad. Stay tuned on my blog, as well as my YouTube channel for updates. I still can’t believe I’m taking this big leap, but I am so excited. If you’d like to check out my YouTube video, definitely do so here:
